Figurative language is a piece of cake!

Figurative language is a powerful tool that third graders are learning to use to make their conversations and writing more interesting and fun. Figurative language is language that uses words or expressions with a meaning that is different from the literal interpretation, or actual words. Often, it is meant to provide mental pictures for the reader or listener and describes something by comparing it to something else. It includes idioms, metaphors, and similes. For example, our study of figurative language has caused us to hit the books. And, we've discovered that figurative language is a piece of cake!
